Presidents Letter for June 2009
Hello UCRCS Club Members. June was a very exciting
month for the club. We have added a new
club member, Mr. Doug Messa. Doug fly's
both heli and fixed wing aircraft. So everyone
give him a welcome and make him feel at home.
The Heli Fun-Fest was a great success. It took a lot
of work to accomplish this event. Thanks goes
out to everyone who participated and helped in this our
second heli event.
Special thanks goes out to Ron Serafin's wife Evelyn for fixings
the food and my aunt for the coleslaw and the McCurdys and
Ron S for making the food line a great success.
Great job goes out to all UCRCS club members who worked in
the heat to pull this fun event off.
The flying field is in good shape. Lets keep up
on the mowing to keep it that way. If you can
help mowing put your name on the mowing list .
Buddy Qualls has assembled the roller for the
field. We will discuss this at our next meeting
in deeper detail.
July's meeting will be July 9th at the field.
Dine at 6:00pm with meeting to follow. I suggest
all members to attend as we have the Elect Fly-In event
coming up the 25th of July. We need your help in
all these event's to make them successful.
August is the Giant Scale event and Sept is the Air
Show at the Sparta Airport. So we are going to
be busy the next few months members, so all help will
benefit everyone and the club.
Keep in mind do not be flying anywhere close to Mr. Ray
Mackie's farm house and barn. We had another
incident and if this keeps happening we could find ourselves
without a field to fly at. Let's not blow this opportunity
by flying towards his property. Use a spotter to help
you while flying so you won't fly in his no fly zone.
Well members that is all for this month and I look forward
to seeing you at the field for some fun, friendship and
flying.
Have a great July,
Steve Mullis

UCRCS President’s Report (May 2009) Hello Club Members,
Well May is almost over and there have been a
few good days flying and some great flying going on at our
field, but of course this year has given us more rain than
usual. The field had dried up enough to finally get some
mowing done. Our field is still soggy in some places but
we still can fly. Ron Serafin and myself mowed last week
on Thursday and then Buddy Qualls came by Monday and mowed the
field again. Thanks Buddy!, I think if the rain holds
off or we just get spotted rain, we could mow it again on Thursday,
the 28th, to have some flying on our fly day which is every Thursday
as club members. To all new pilots in training, I will be at
the field Thursday, weather permitting, for flight instruction
between 3 and 7pm.
I received in the mail the clubs new frequency board stickers for the south end of the field. It includes all 72 mhz and 50mhz stickers as well as the old freq like 26.995 and also ten stickers for the new 2.4 ghz frequency. We will discuss this at our next meeting. We need a person to construct a freq board with top bottom and sides. The stickers are high quality and weather resistant so a front is optional, but we need to decide how to mount it at the field. I suggest Plexiglas as the instructions state the stickers must be applied to a clean smooth flat surface. I am open to any and all suggestions. Our next meeting will be at UCRCS flying field. Come early and eat at 6:00pm and the meeting follows after we dine. I urge all who can attend this meeting on the 11th of June be there. We have the Heli-Fest coming up the 26th 27th and the 28th of June. There are a lot of decisions we need to talk about. Your help and input is very important to the success of this event. I forget to mention we have a new mower at our field now. I suggest you attend this meeting to get familiar with it and how to operate it correctly. We need more pilots to help keep our field in proper order so that we can fly anytime we wish. It does not take long now with this new mower. I can't express enough again about flying towards the north end of the field towards Mr. Mackies farm. DO NOT DO THIS!!! Fly at the Middle of the field or towards the South end there is plenty of room there! Anything can happen and you seasoned pilots know this. If you see a new pilot drifting towards Mr. Mackies farm instruct him or her to get away and fly farther south from that area. Do not fly over the TRUCK STOP also!! We do not need to pay to get a truck fixed or hit someone that could be a tourist. Avoid these areas all cost! We do not want to loose our field! Now with a brighter note. Let's all welcome a new member to UCRCS, Mr. Chad Kunkle. He is married and his wife's name is Brandy and they have a small son. Chad is training on a Nexstar trainer with a JR radio for guidance on ch-40. He is going to try and be at the next meeting so lets all make him welcome and show him our hospitality. Anyone having something to sell or some club photos, send them to Holly to post, also if you can put your name on the mowing schedule that will be greatly appreciated. So everyone that can, be at the club meeting on the 11th of June. That's all for this month and I will see you all at the field for some great flying.

Back to Top UCRCS President’s Report (April 2009) Hello UCRCS Club members,
Well May is almost upon us
and I hope with some great
flying weather. We have been getting a lot of rain in the
past month and with warmer weather the grass at the field has
gone crazy. The field is still too wet to mow at this time
without some damage to it by creating ruts from the tires of the
mower. I think we will have to bush hog first before we can use
our mower. The grass is so tall that it is hard to tell
our landing strip from Farmer Mackie's field. This is just
an idea on the bush hog. Nothing is final.
The club has a new mower and a good one at
that. Bob Connors
states that the deck wheels could use some adjustment before use,
but other than that all is ok. We need to get insurance
before we leave it our field. Also we need to get a
trailer to get it to the field. Buddy's trailer has a flat tire
and is out of commission. So let's see what we can do
about these small problems.
April 18th all that attended the spring Farm-Fly at Frosty Acres
had a great time. Good food and good flying was enjoyed by
all. Pictures of the event are on our web page.
Thanks goes out to Bob Mackie's dad for letting him share his
property for our hobby. I am just wondering when we will
see a flying tractor at the field. We did see a flying
lawnmower. Now we need a giant scale John Deer with a plow
behind it... Hum???
May's meeting will be on the 14th at the UCRCS field.
Meeting starts at 6:30 pm . Come early and fly and enjoy a
meal by Dale H.
We have a Fun - Fly the 23rd of
May and it will take a little
work to get our field in shape for the event. So all
volunteer work will be appreciated in this endeavor
So
with that members keep your ears and eyes open for potential new
members to our club. This is a great hobby and we need to
share it with whomever might be interested.
See you at the flying field or at our next meeting and fly
carefully.
Keep Em Flying,
Steve Mullis
President - UCRCS
Back to Top UCRCS President’s Report (March 2009) March has come and gone with not much improvement in the weather. There were a few good flying days this month but not many as we would have liked. There were a few pictures of members having a great time though at the wet and soggy field.
March's meeting was a
great success and club issues were
voted on and finalized by all who attended. We have new
club instructors now
just waiting for there AMA Cards to arrive in the
mail. Instructors are as follows. ( Jim Casey, Fixed wing. Elect
and Gas).( Bob
Connors, Fixed Wing Gas).( Steve Mullis, Fixed Wing Gas).(
Terry Moore, Helicopters, Gas and Elect). Thanks to all of these
fine pilots for there services in helping new pilots enjoy this great hobby.
Our field is really
wet at the moment. So if you are on the mowing schedule you might
want to re-schedule your cutting day till
the field dries up. Mowing at this time will do more damage than
good. Get with Holly Forkner to re-schedule if possible.
As far as the mower is
concerned, repairs have been made and has been
serviced except for one problem. On inspection of the mower
by John Troubaugh it appears that the right rear axle where it
goes into the transmission housing is wallered out. John says it
would cost $500.00 just for parts to repair. So your vice pres and
secretary treasure and myself
and a few other club members have been looking for a replacement
mower. If any club members have seen any great deals on a heavy
duty mower let us know at our April meeting. This has to be voted
on by the club because it involves a substantial amount of club
funds to get a new mower. John also stated it might last the whole
flying season or maybe just a month. Evidently it was in this
condition last season and no one knew it but it got us through
another year. A few members have already come up with a few good
leads on some mowers at this time.
Our April meeting will
be at the flying field (Weather Permitting). We will move the
meeting to Doug Graves yellow
House just over I-40
Northbound by the Fire-station if it is cold and raining.
Meeting starts at 6:30 as usual with a meal at 6:00. Weather
permitting come early and do some flying.
All of our events are on schedule as of this time for this flying season. Keep up the good work CD's.
Our March meeting
brought up also the importance of putting
your AMA card in the frequency slot on our board as soon
as you get to the
field. Do not attempt to fly without doing this first! You
will be responsible for any cause of an accident of another
aircraft and I am sure you do not need any out of pocket expenses
to purchase someone else's plane and radio equipment for them to
enjoy the rest of the flying season. An ounce of prevention is
worth a pound of cure. Be Safe! Not Sorry!
We had a great show
and tell at March's meeting. Lot's of
valuable information was exchanged. Planes for sale and Bob
Metzger with his
contest winning old timer planes.
Keep your eye on our
website for sale items. You can get some good deals there. If you
have anything for sale E-Mail it to Holly
Forkner for display on our site.
Well members that's
about all for this month. Hopefully in
April we will be getting some good weather for flying our planes
and heli's. Don't forget the Spring Farm Fly at Bob Mackie's Dad's
farm Frosty Acres on the 18th of April.
So with that I will
say "Keep Em Flying" and watch out for standing water when you land.
It's hard on the landing gear.
Have a great
April,
Steve Mullis

UCRCS President’s Report (Feb 2009)
Hello UCRCS Club Members;
Well Feb is almost over and March will be here with hopefully
some decent flying weather on the horizon. We had a few days
this month to get in the air but it was few. On the 21st,
Terry Moore, Carl Buxton, Bob Connors and myself went to the Crossville
CCRCC Elect Fly-In at the First Baptist Church. They had 15
registered pilots and a good time was had by all that attended.
Carl Buxton put on a great helicopter demo that stunned the
spectators. Terry Moore also showed his flying skills with
a heli and I flew my Ember and small heli. Bob Connors
took some photos of some of the flying that went on and I think
he has sent them to Holly for our website, but I am not sure.
A pilot from Possum Works designs and builds his own electric
planes that flew great. They can be flown indoors or outside and
a great plane to learn 3D.
We had a great meeting on the 12th of this month. A lot of
issues were discussed and voted on and I know the March meeting
on the 12th also will bring up some interesting subjects.
We had a great meal prepared by Dale H and dessert by the
Mccurdy's. We ran out it was so good. Thanks fellows !
Our club also enjoyed show and tell by Steve Mayfield and his
guest Nate from Tullahoma. They had a couple of Eindeckers
from Balsa USA that were full build kits and they both did a
great job of building them. I hear that Steve Mayfield has
flown his maiden with his Eindecker and all went great.
Good job Fellows. Bob Metzger also bought one of his old
timer planes and filled us up with all kinds of info on his
design and engine setup of this beautiful aircraft. Bob
enters a lot of the old timer contest held all over the US in
hoping to win first place in his event. I have a good
feeling with this plane he is going to do it. Bob Connors
has a new Ultimate that will be in the air soon and also Ron
Serafin has a new Hanger 9 Raptor that will be ready real
soon. Any club member that has a new plane to fly this
year bring it to show and tell or maybe a picture if it is to
big for the meeting room.
Greg Garrison of G&L Hobbies has some new 50% aircraft
for all you giant scale buffs. These are really big and very
well built ARFs. Go to his website and check them
out. Chris of Cookeville Raceway has some great deals on
planes and heli's all the time. Drop by and say hello to
these hobby shop owners and give them a thumbs up on having a
great place to shop for what we need for our hobby. Lets
keep them in business!
The field is still wet on the lower end so be careful when you
land you might sink up to your axles. Grass still doesn't
need any mowing as of yet so if the weather is nice I hope
to see some of you out there.
So with that members I hope to see you at the field weather
permitting
Keep
Em Flying,
Steve Mullis
