Minutes of the Most Recent UCRCS Club Meeting
UCRCS’s
regular monthly Club meeting was held June 12th at the UCRCS flying
field. Special thanks go to
Steven and Gary Lee for mowing the field this week.
There was some good flying at the field, and Del provided us with a great
cold cut meal. Holly has put
pictures on the website for all to see.
The meeting was lead by President James Smith starting with a welcome to
all attending, including guest Bob Sealey.
Thanks
also go to Jim Casey for continuing to oversee the building of the scratch built
plane, which several club members are in the process of building.
He continues to open his wonderful workshop, and to provide instructions
to anyone wishing to work on this project.
Bob
Metzger is still offering his facilities for a future project, so that club
members can get together more often and enjoy the building process.
Come join the fun!
MINUTES
/ TREASURY REPORT:
Sec/Treas
Maryann Smith announced the regular Club
meeting minutes were posted on the Web-Site for Club Members to view.
A discussion ensued about the sign for the field, but all agreed that
this information was presented as discussed.
With no revisions suggested, a motion was made, seconded, and
approved to accept the minutes as posted.
Maryann Smith
summarized the current expenses and resulting bank balances.
CLUB
OPERATIONS:
Thanks
go to Vice President, Steve Mullis, who has restocked the first aid kit for the
field, which is a definite need, as we have several events coming up.
James
S. reported that the sign for the field, about AMA requirements, was in the
process of being completed. Gene H.
stated that he feels that we need to add a sign, requiring membership to UCRCS
after 6 free visits. It was agreed
that we would get the new sign posted and then review the need.
Gene also feels that we may need to install a cable gate on the actual
field again, if the main gate continues to be open.
No decision was made at this time.
Maryann
S. reported that we have not yet received the bill for the “Potty” service,
which has been done. Hats for the
club have been ordered, and will be here by the first of next week. They
will be on sale for $15.00 each. We
have now received the bill for our web site, which will be paid immediately.
Holly has paid the part for the name, and will be reimbursed.
Holly
requested that anyone who takes pictures at the field, or of other events, send
them to him to be put on the web.
Chris
K., of Cookeville Raceway and Hobbies, reported that Nitro fuel costs are going
up daily in the extreme, but that he will provide members with one gallon at the
old price. Bring your own jug for
$2.00 off. Quantities may be
limited in the future, as they expect no more 15% until October.
Club
Dues for 2008
– we continued discussions on Club dues, and members were to remind those who
have not paid, to get their dues in.
Thanks again to G & L Hobbies, and
Cookeville Raceway and Hobbies for their continued support.
The club has withdrawn from The Middle
Tennessee RC Clubs Association, with no hard feelings, as they understand the
hardship of distance for us. We can
still attend all events, however, which are listed on their website.
Chris K. suggested some money making ideas for
the club, including a helicopter fly-in, which the Rotary Wing Club may be
willing to share any expenses. He
called and arranged for free food to be provided by Golden Corral.
He also knows a T-shirt maker, who may be willing to come to the field.
A possible raffle was also discussed.
A tentative date is being discussed, and will hopefully be set by the
next meeting date, possibly on 10-18-08, as we will be unable to have the
farm-fly on that date. Chris suggested at least a 2 day event with a $20 entry fee.
He already knows of several people who would be interested.
Steve M., Maryann S., Chris K, and Tony S. will work out the details to
present to the club.
NOTE: We are moving the August
UCRCS regular monthly meeting to August 7th, due to the Giant
Scale Fly-In being on August 9th. Some last minute plans may be needed. Please change the date on your calendars.

to be determined.
FIELD
UPDATE:
There
have been several projects underway at the field.
1)
The Club has replaced the strip off the
canopy, replaced the rope on the flag pole, and
rebuilt the pilot stands. Thanks
to everyone who helped.
2)
James S. reported no changes since his last
contact with the truckstop manager, Ron Craig, who indicated no plans to expand.
However, members should still be on the lookout for other possibilities
for a field location, since this is a constant unknown about the development
around the truckstop.
3)
Mowers are still needed for the schedule for
this year. Send your information to
Holly and he will get you on the schedule.
ADJORNMENT:
The
meeting was adjourned followed by an impromptu show & tell by Tony C. with
his new wing.

Maryann

UCRCS’s
regular monthly Club meeting was held May 8th at Doug Graves’
workplace, due to the rain that would not quit. There was definitely no flying on this date!
Thanks Doug for the use of your facilities.
We didn’t get Del’s usual good cooking, but the pizza we ordered in
was a good substitute. There were
11 members in attendance.
The
meeting was lead by President James Smith starting with a welcome to all
attending, in spite of the bad weather. The
“Yellow House,” Doug’s office, provided a great meeting environment.
Many thanks to Doug Graves for permitting our use of his facility.
Thanks
also go to Jim Casey for continuing to oversee the building of the scratch built
plane, which several club members are in the process of building.
He continues to open his wonderful workshop, and to provide instructions
to anyone wishing to work on this project.
Bob

CLUB
OPERATIONS:
James
S. gave a report on the lawnmower repairs, which are now completed, and reported
that the gas can is full for the next few mowings. Thanks to Doug Ruffner for the last mowing.
Maryann
S. reported that the “Potty” is being serviced soon, and that hats for the
club have been ordered, but will not be here until after “Joe Noll,” due to
their schedule there. We will not
have them until after the fly-in, but they should be here sometime next month.
Holly
requested that anyone who takes pictures at the field, or of other events, send
them to him to be put on the web.
Club
Dues for 2008
– we continued discussions on Club dues, and members were to remind those who
have not paid, to get their dues in.
Gene H. reported that there were several
unauthorized individuals flying at the field, when no club member was present. It was agreed that we will check on getting a sign to put up
at the field, stating that AMA membership is required to be able to fly
there, with visitors welcome, but with membership in UCRCS encouraged.
James S. will check on the costs of getting this sign made.
We approved $30 to each hobby shop for prizes
for the upcoming Field Fly-In. They
will determine what they want to provide for that amount, which will be picked
up before the event. Thanks again to G & L Hobbies, and Cookeville Raceway and
Hobbies for their continued support.
Bob M. states that he is considering
installing a fabric field at the family farm, with possible monthly fly-ins
there.
We paid the entry fee for the Soap Box Derby,
which was voted on last year, and Gene H. will arrange for our entry. We need a driver, with age and weight limits, so any club
member having kids interested, please contact the club or Gene H.
Otherwise, there is apparently a list of children wanting to drive, who
will be picked from. We want to continue support of this event, as it has gained
up some publicity last year, in that our car was featured in the local paper
picture.
The club agreed to withdraw from The Middle
Tennessee RC Clubs Association, as the location and distance is making it
difficult for members to attend, which is a requirements to remain in the club.
Jim C. has been attending and agreed to notify the club.
We can still attend all events, however, which are listed on their
website.

FIELD
UPDATE:
There
are several projects underway or planned for improvements at the field.
1)
The Club has a scheduled workday for Satdurday
May 10th to replace the strip off the canopy, replace the rope on the
flag pole, and to rebuild the pilot stands, before the upcoming fly-in.
2)
James S. reported that his last contact with
the truckstop manager, Ron Craig, indicated no plans to expand at present.
However, James S. brought up the prospect of members being on the lookout
for other possibilities for a field location, since this is a constant unknown
about the development around the truckstop.
Several properties were discussed. Bob
M. has checked with the airport, and it does not look like we will be able to
have the giant scale fly-in there, nor is it a possibility for an alternate
field location. A committee may be
appointed to research possible sites.
3)
Mowers are still needed for the schedule for
this year. Send your information to
Holly and he will get you on the schedule.
ADJORNMENT:

·
The field was reported to be in general good
condition, but will need to be reseeded in some areas.
We still plan to work on the unfinished end of the field to extend our
flying area.
·
It was noted that the field needs to be mowed
regularly now. Holly F. again
requested that names be sent to him by email to put on the web-site mowing list
for 2008. Call Holly to get a
substitute if you cannot mow on your scheduled date.
Everyone needs to sign up if possible.
·
James S. reported that the mower still needs
some repairs and the deck belt replaced. He
will get with John Trobaugh to schedule the necessary repairs, which have
already been approved.
·
James S. will take care of having the flag
pole rope replaced.
·
The club agreed that contents in the field box
are piling up. All unnecessary
items will be moved to the shed.
·
Del H. will check on the gas level for the
grill prior to the fly in at the field.

canopy, but that the wind damage to the canopy still needs to be repaired on our
work day which has been rescheduled for 5-10-08, the Saturday
after our next meeting.
·
James S. reported that the new FedEx building
is well underway, but we have heard nothing more about how it might affect our
field. There is also the ongoing
discussion about the truck stop expanding on the other end of the field, with no
new news on that subject. Members
are still encouraged to suggest alternate flying sites for consideration.
·
Rebuilding the two damaged pilot stands is

We are currently meeting at Jim Casey’s house at 6:30 PM on Monday
nights. Bob Metzger has offered his
home for a later build. Other
locations and dates will be discussed at our following meetings.
This is a great way for club members to get together, other than our
meetings, and learn new ideas and techniques.
Come join the fun even if you are not building.
See James S. for the plans.
A
“Club Trainer” is on the list for a later project, with Chris Kirovac of
Cookeville Raceway and Hobbies volunteering to supply the wood necessary for the
build. Plans will need to be
considered for this project.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Doug
G. mentioned that all the club hats have been sold. A motion was made and approved
for Maryann S. to order a dozen to have on hand to sell.
Gene
H. mentioned that several individuals had been seen flying at the field, who
were not members or with members. We
are currently unable to lock the gate again, due to the camper in the parking
lot, so another fence may have to be erected at the entrance to the flying area.
No decision was made on this date, but will need to be addressed.
Mention
was made that the Port-A-Potty is close to being in need of servicing.
Maryann will arrange for services prior to our field fly.
Greg
Garrison, of G & L Hobbies, provided our “Show and Tell” for the
meeting, demonstrating the fiberglass molds and molding process for his Cessna
310, which is his latest “build.”
It will be an awesome plane!

Many thanks to Del Hef. for the great meal.
We missed you last month!
Attendance was low, due to the holiday, but President James Smith
welcomed new member, Scott McQuiston, who was able to attend his first meeting.
The
meeting was lead by President James Smith starting with a welcome to all
attending, and thanks to Bob Mackie for the use of the facilities, even though
he could not be present.
The IWC Conf Room continues to be a great meeting
